PEDESTRIAN ACCESSIBILITY AUDIT Presidential Way, Lilongwe

Spectrum Access Solutions conducted a pedestrian accessibility audit of the sidewalks along PresidentialWay, Lilongwe, covering the 5.3 km stretch from the Stadium Roundabout to the Capital Hotel Roundabout.

The audit found that the sidewalk infrastructure along Presidential Way presents multiple serious barriers topersons with disabilities, older adults, and any pedestrian with a mobility impairment, visual impairment, or who uses a wheelchair, crutches, or assistive walking device.

The physical accessibility of a school building is therefore not solely a matter of educational inclusion — it is a matter of civic inclusion, public safety, and democratic participation.

Four schools in Lilongwe were visited to see how they fare against universal accessibility standards.
